Legal services
A law firm
Five lawyers, three versions of the same contract, and the good template sitting in the inbox of whoever drafted it two years ago.
The mess
The lease agreement exists in four files with similar names and nobody knows which one carries the termination clause the partner approved. Every new draft starts by copying the last one somebody remembers seeing, and the case law behind an argument won last year is still on the local disk of whoever wrote it.
What changes
- One place where the current template is the one that comes up first, with the older versions beside it instead of deleted
- Search for what the clause said, even when the file is named "contract final v3 REV"
- Each practice with its own folder and permissions, so employment cannot walk into corporate unless someone shares it
- The first draft comes out of the firm's own templates, not out of what a language model read on the internet
Where the mess lives
A ten-person firm produces two things all day: documents that look like one another, and judgment about which of those documents is any good. The first gets filed. The second lives in three people’s heads.
The classic symptom is the nine in the morning question: which is the good template for a services agreement? The correct answer is usually a file with a name that says nothing, inside a shared folder last tidied when the previous assistant joined, or attached to an email from 2024.
The second symptom costs more: two lawyers argue the same point along different lines because neither knew the other had already solved it.
What changes
Files enter the firm’s vault as they are. PDFs and DOCX are stored untouched and next to each one sits a text note carrying its content, which is what gets indexed. Uploading ten years of case files consumes no credit at all, because indexing runs on the server against a local model.
From there search stops depending on the file name. Two searches run at once, one by meaning and one by literal term, and the results are fused: “early termination clause without penalty” finds the document even when the text reads “unilateral rescission with no compensation due”.
The department tree is built the way the firm is built: employment, corporate, criminal, compliance. The partner who administers a branch administers everything hanging off it. A trainee sees exactly the matter they were assigned to.
A concrete example
You ask the corporate agent: draft the bylaw amendment for the Andes client following the template we used for the Vialta amendment, and tell me which clauses change because of last year’s regulatory reform.
The agent works inside the corporate folder. It looks up the two earlier amendments, opens the department’s main note where the criteria the firm already settled are written down, drafts the document as a new file in that same folder, and links the sources it used. You watch every search and every file it touches while it happens.
That turn costs somewhere between three hundred and nine hundred credits, call it thirty to ninety cents, and it is recorded with its date, process and usage in the company meter.
What we will not promise you
The agent does not give an opinion and it does not review on your behalf. It drafts on top of what your firm already wrote and shows you where each piece came from, which shortens the first draft, not the professional judgment.
Two lawyers cannot edit the same note at the same time. If two people save over the same file, the last save wins. For matter-by-matter work, where everyone has their own, that is enough; if your workflow depends on simultaneous editing of one document, that piece is missing today.
We hold no third-party security certification. What we do have can be reviewed in detail, including the isolation between companies and the hash-chained log of every action the agent takes.
What does the work
The parts that carry it
These are not modules sold separately. Every plan includes all of them; these are the ones that carry most of the weight here.
Other shapes of company
The same mess, elsewhere
The industry and the vocabulary change. The structure of the problem rarely does.
